I was cleaning up the backyard and I found one of your old guns.
Where was it?
Behind the shed. There was another under the house.
I found one I hid from you.
Why did you hide it?
I didn't want you boys playing with it.
Which one was it?
I don't know, it was a pistol. I put it in the linen cupboard.
Remember when you used to shoot each other with the rifle?
That was so much fun.
I've got some pellets at home, the rifle's still somewhere around.

Paradise Island - Anna
Cherise was holding onto the champagne bottles while Toru, the pilot, landed their light aircraft in the sand. There was a runway strip, but the beach was closer to Cherise's house so they always landed on the sand.
They walked off the beach, through the palm trees, and onto the path where Johnno, Cherise's husband, was waiting.
"Thanks Toru," Cherise said, and suddenly thinking that he might prefer to live more akin to his old life, added, "You know, you can hunt for food if you like."
Toru was stumped. Why would he go hunting when Cherise and Johnno provided all the food he and his people needed? He stood there watching them as they walked off toward their residence. Maybe she wanted him to make a show for her. Prove that he can still catch wild animals. She might turn it into an attraction. Or maybe she would no longer require his services and his people would have no where to go? That must be it.
Cherise and Johnno turned around and saw Toru aim a bow and arrow at a native fowl. One shot was all he needed and it was dead.
Toru saw the white couple watching him in admiration. He raised his bow and arrow and pointed at them. He had a fierce look in his eyes.
"RUN!" Cherise cried, dropping the French champagne to the ground.
Cherise and Johnno ran as fast as they could in the direction of their house. Cherise looked behind her and saw Johnno crouched behind some construction work where they were preparing another guest house. Johnno raised his head to check the direction of Toru. Toru was quick to shoot and got him in the head.
Cherise ran and made it to the door of her large house. She saw Nussi, Toru's daughter, standing on a rock to her right, holding a spear by her side. Nussi did not move. Cherise turned around and Toru was only a metre away. He let her go inside. She was glad she was spared but now she had to figure out what to do next.
Cherise entered her house. As she started down the corridor, she felt a sharp spike against her back. Toru was pointing an arrow at her and motioned for her to go outside. Nussi would learn to spear and they would reclaim their island.

keep movin', Rob! - Brad Evans
keep movin', Rob!
keep movin'
she ain't gonna get you!
she ain't gonna touch you!
just keep on movin'
what was that woman thinkin', Rob?
what WAS that woman thinkin'?
Three times your age man!
Keep away from that sofa!
Just keep away from it!
It was a place to nod your nut,
I understand, old boy
To rest your weary head,
So soft, wrinkly & plush
Like an old woman's breasts, Rob!
An old woman's breasts!
But we don't wanna go back there yet
so just keep on movin'!
What started all this, Rob?
What started all this?
She sat beside you and you were out!
And the sofa felt good, Rob,
After a hot day mowing grass
And all that beer
The sofa felt wobbly
Like an old woman's arse!
But we don't wanna go there, Rob!
We don't wanna go there!
Keep movin'
It was a Christmas gathering
All your fellow workers
Coming together
And you found that sofa
and felt safe with your head back and restful
Until a hand brushed your thigh, Rob,
A hand - brushed your thigh!
An accident no doubt, Rob
We'll pass on that one.
All that beer and sofa can't be given up easily, Rob
Not without a fight!
And the sofa felt good, Rob,
The sofa felt smooth
Like toothless gums over your knob
But we don't wanna go there, Rob!
We don't wanna go there!
Keep movin'
Look at you in all your youth
You're upright like a sprout
No place to close your bloodshot eyes
You miss that sofa already, don't you.
But there's bad memories there, Rob!
Bad memories.
You don't wanna go back just yet!
So keep movin'.
You listened to the chat and smiled at the jokes
You rested your eyes
With your head nodding off
Until a hand stroked your chest, Rob
A hand - stroked your chest!
An accident no doubt, Rob
Don't jump to conclusions
It will go away soon!
You've kept the sofa to yourself, Rob!
Kept it to yourself
And the sofa felt good, Rob
The sofa creaked
Like an old lover's bones
But we don't wanna go there, Rob!
We don't wanna go there!
Keep movin'
You felt that was it, Rob!
You felt that was it!
You'd found your sofa and the beer
You felt that you'd arrived
And you were resting very well
But what was that tongue doin' in ya mouth, Rob?
What was that tongue doin' in ya mouth?
An accident no doubt, Rob
An accident no doubt!
It's time to rise my restful peach
And just keep on movin'.

That's OK - Anna
Sometimes I can't be arsed going somewhere exotic
Somewhere different
Somewhere nice.
But that's OK.
The old drunk is still drinking under the bridge
The sun is still shining
And that's OK.

Sunrise Polar Bear - Anna
I stepped outside and looked at the eastern sky. The horizon was glowing and beginning to turn the clouds pink. I walked west down my street towards the main road.
Before I got there I saw a polar bear walking towards me. He had a friendly aura. I was not sure if he was being drawn in by the sunrise or if he was coming to warn me about something.
As we met, he looked at me. Was he trying to say something? I kept going, and every time I turned back, he was still looking at me.
I would find out later if he was trying to warn me about something or if he was being lured east by the beautiful sunrise.

The Dog Walk - Anna
I was taking my two dogs for a walk and two neighbours and their two dogs happened to be walking the same direction as me. We all went through an underpass of a disused railway station. The dogs had all gone on ahead.
But then a train came. We were worried the dogs might have got on the tracks so we quickly ran up to the platform to look for the dogs and call them to us. We couldn't find them. We thought they might have got on the train. We walked up and down the carriages looking for them.
I had separated from the neighbours and went downstairs to the first class carriages. There were really nice seats and dining areas. I must have looked like riff raff to everyone there as I walked quickly along the passage way looking for the dogs. There was absolutely no sign of them.
There was another level below the first class carriage. This was second class. I found the neighbours here. They said the dogs had been caught and put in a container. It was a long train journey into the neighbouring country and the dogs had to be kept in the cargo area. We hadn't registered our dogs in our home town, and since the next stop was in the next country, the dogs would become citizens of that country. They wouldn't be allowed back home without undergoing an extensive quarantine period. I was so upset and angry.
I saw the wooden crate that the dogs had been put in. There would be several days until the next stop. I wanted to open the crate to feed them and give them water but I wasn't allowed. In the end they suffered complications and died.

How Much Do You Like Cooking? - Anna
I got on the bus and sat behind a girl with long black hair. She turned around and asked myself and the other passengers near me how much we like cooking, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 meaning we loved cooking.
Someone next to me said "-1."
I timidly said, "I like it."
And a guy behind me said "-20."
I felt like the odd one out.
Then the girl with long black hair said, "If anyone likes yoghurt, I can make some nice yoghurt out of blackberry cake."
That sounded strange to me.

First Day of Spring - Anna
Today is the first day of Spring. I have ventured outside for the first time in a long time, in three months.
The sky is blue for the first time. The grass is green. There is a hint of warmth in the air.
I can see! I can smell! I had forgotten how nice it was to be outside!
I should do this more often, go outside. Relax, breathe, live.

I am always open to submissions. If you like what you see and have something you think you can add, shoot me a message!

5:57am - Anna
Every morning at 5:57am I see the same lady on the same stretch of road at the same time every day.
She is always talking to herself. I don't know what she says because I am usually on the other side of the road. She is quite large and perhaps in her seventies.
I don't know where she is going at 5:57am. It's still dark then. The stars and moon are out. Sometimes it's frosty.
Where does this woman go at 5:57am?

(The Day) The Mist (Sucked Me In) - Anna
I woke up early and looked out the window. It was a little misty outside. I thought it would be a good start to the day to go for a walk.
As I walked further, the mist became more intense. I noticed the birds had stopped chirping. Were they too cold to chirp in this weather or did they choose to not come here?
It was cold. The air was thick. All I could hear were my footsteps and my heartbeat. I wondered what it would be like to be enclosed in the whiteness. The mist was drawing me in. I continued forward to where the trees seemed to disappear into nothing.
Soon there was silence. I was in enveloped in the mist. I could not see anything but whiteness. I could not hear my heartbeat. I could not tell if I was moving because I could not see my feet and there was no noise. Silence. Nothing. The mist had sucked me in.

The Noise - Anna
It could take me in
and eat me up.
I don’t know where it comes from
or where it leads to.
Terrifying, no escape.
The noise is inevitable.
It happens again.
I run.
Safe again.

The same moon - Michael Bedward
This is the same moon
Backlighting the chance shapes and symmetries
Of fast moving clouds
Now a pair of hands
Now angel's wings
Now something almost recognised
Tugging at me
Fleeting
This is the same moon
Suddenly bright and unobscured
Undistanceable
But somehow the same as
The black and white television moon
Of my childhood
Closer then
Within reach
I shone my brightest torch into the night sky
Wondering if it could be seen from the moon
And knew that I would be there one day
Because it and everything was within reach
I lay in the backyard gazing up
Tucked into my imagined cramped capsule
Counting down
Ready
This is the same moon
Shining tonight on my adult head
Floating impossibly in the terrible void
That I will never cross nor comprehend
Hidden by cloud once more
It is lost
And I look down
Anxious for gravity

Flower - Michael Bedward
She holds out her hand
Palm upwards
Tiny and perfect
Flower !
A demand
But not like my demands
Hers are stronger
More certain
Empty of worry
I draw a daisy on her palm
She watches
Intent
Inspects it cafefully
Then all smiling
Shows it to me
I've studied flowers
But she knows them better

Hello,
I am mrs Sandra Mbame from Botswana. I am married to Dr.Joseph Mbame who worked with Botswana embassy in Leshoto for nine years before he died.
We were married for eighteen years with a child. My Husband died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days. Since his death I decided not to re-marry or get a child outside my matrimonial home. When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of $14.865,000,00(Fourteen million Eight hundred and sixty five thousand U.S.Dollars) in a security company in Abidjan-Cote D'Ivoire. The money was deposited in a trunk box as family valuables.
Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not last for the next three months due to cancer Problem. Though what disturbs me most is the stoke,Having known my condition I decided to look for a God fearing individual that will utilize this money to the glory of God to take care of my only child for better future.I took this decision because my only child is still young and can not manage this fund very well and my husband relatives are not happy with my husband's wealth when he was alife and through my prayers and the directions of God,I have found out that their hands is in my husband's death and I don't want my husband's hard earned money to be misused by evil men. I don't want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly manner, hence the reason for taking this bold decision.
As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the Security company in Abidjan where my husband deposited the consignment . Any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing for another person for this same purpose.
Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I stated herein and you will take care of my only child.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Yours Sincerely,
Mrs Sandra Mbame

It is a shame you have such a negative attitude. I was under the impression you needed my assistance in your business. I am more than willing to assist financially, but you must understand that I do not know you, and need some security, therefore you must assist me to assit you. So in 3 days, when your son's passport is ready, you will scan and email it to me so I can see that you are genuine in this cause, for you have provided me no evidence that you have a son. Then I will forward you my photo and we shall proceed from there. Alternatively, you may suggest another method for me to place my full trust in you.

Dear Mrs Sandra,
I agree with you that time waits for nobody but you have not put a deadline on this project as as I understand it, it should be done carefully and correctly. Do you agree?
Show me a photo of you and your son. Or at least show me a photo with you holding a sign that says "BAITED". I want to know exactly who I am dealing with and who I can trust in the name of the Lord. You can already trust me, for it was you who originally contacted me and had faith in me.
I think you would like to know that the security company sent me a form to fill out and I am doing that now.
Regarding you,
Mrs Barmby

Route 40 - Michael Bedward
The end of my fourth decade approaches
Lumbering towards me
Like an old worn out Sydney bus
Paint scratched
Upholstery sagging
Engine rumbling unevenly
And prone to spluttering under effort
I can see it getting closer
With its indicator flashing
There's no mistaking the fact
That it's heading for my stop
I wish it was one of those sleek new ones
With the flexy bits in the middle
And a clearly displayed destination
I'm really not sure
Where this one is going
